Purpose and Priorities

Priorities

1.    In Early Years and Year 1 Speech and Language issues, including speech production and language concepts.

2.    Some pupils have larger gaps than their peers across the school

3.    Lower Key Stage 2 are an area of focus – phonics and maths (those children who were in KS1 and missed phonics/maths in Year 2)

 

Purpose of spend

The catch-up grant will be used for additional provision and training that supports us to close the gap in the above priorities.

Subject-specific assessments to identify particular areas where pupils have forgotten or misunderstood key concepts, to ensure that new material being covered builds on secure foundations.

Transition support

Support pupils starting at our school; sharing information about school with children and their families and amended transition arrangements, such as staggered start to help children feel comfortable in their new school.

Class mindfulness sessions (via Zoom) for whole school.

If required interventions focusing on other aspects of learning, such as behaviour or pupils’ social and emotional needs, supporting them in the self-regulation of their behaviour (via trained child counsellor).

Targeted Support

One to one and small group teaching

Pay for additional adult support (Teaching Assistant for 4 days/week), linked to the curriculum and focused on the areas where pupils would most benefit from additional practice or feedback - 1:1 or small group.

Intervention programmes

 

Implement evidence based programmes, delivered by trained TA, to meet specific needs, such as:

·         EY and KS1- oral language skills and early maths skills

·         LKS2 - securing phonics and maths knowledge

·         UKS2 – writing focus, in particular; writing of a variety of genres, recapping punctuation and use of precise vocabulary.

 

Ensure regular sessions maintained over a sustained period and carefully timetabled to enable consistent delivery.

Additional sessions timetabled outside of school hours, to provide specific, additional academic support.
